Anticipated Movies of 2011

Big movies of 2010 included the return of Woody and Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story 3 and Tim Burton’s bizarre, yet delightfully entrancing 3-D world of Alice in Wonderland. Now that 2010 is wrapping up, it’s time to look ahead to the most anticipated movies of 2011. Here they are:

1). Captain America: The First Avenger

Chris Evans brings comic book hero Steve Rogers (AKA Captain America) to live in what amounts to an action-packed set up for 2012′s “The Avengers,” with Captain America becoming the lead Avenger in this film, with main nemesis The Red Skull.

2). The Hangover 2

It was a surprise hit in 2009 and the cast, including Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis, and Bradley Cooper, returns for the sequel. This one has the gang heading to Thailand for Stu’s wedding. One memorable scene is said to involve a tattoo. Hooked yet?

3). Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II

Come on, you know you’re dying to know how the last part of the final Harry Potter tale ends.

4). Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz return in this latest Jack Sparrow adventure involving a quest for the fabled Fountain of Youth.

5). Cowboys and Aliens

The next James Bond movie may be on hold, but Daniel Craig returns alongside Harrison Ford to battle alien visitors in 1800s Arizona.

6). Green Lantern

Ryan Reynolds, Mark Strong, and Blake Lively lead the cast of this big-screen take on one of the lesser known superheroes. Early word is Reynolds gives a strong performance.

7). Transformers: Dark of the Moon

Even without Megan Fox returning, early buzz is strong for the third Transformers movie, which suggests there may have been out-of-this-world forces at play involving the U.S./Soviet space race.

8). Water for Elephants

Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson lead the cast in this movie, set during the Depression, focusing on two people who meet while working as part of a traveling circus. Pattinson is the man who takes care of the animals and Witherspoon plays the battered wife of an animal trainer. There is already buzz swirling around this movie, directed by Francis Lawrence.

9). The Adjustment Bureau

Matt Damon won’t be playing Jason Bourne again anytime soon, but there is plenty of adventure to be found in this movie, co-starring Emily Blunt, about a man who gets a glimpse into the future and tries to battle fate.

10). The Smurfs

These little blue creatures, standing three apples high, get the CGI treatment as Gargamel chases the little guys out of their magical world right into the heart of New York City for a smurfy adventure.
